How to become a certified payroll professional

1. Meet educational requirements

3. Take the CPP exam

The final step is to pass the Certified Payroll Professional examination. The exam consists of 190 multiple-choice questions and takes about four hours to complete.

The FPC exam consists of 150 multiple-choice questions on basic payroll concepts, compliance, and payroll calculations.

For the FPC certification exam, you need to pay a fee of $320 if you are a PayrollOrg member or $395.

To earn the Fundamental Payroll Certification, you need to pass the FPC exam. No specific education or experience is required.

Certified Payroll Specialist (CPS) Certification

The NACPB issues the Certified Payroll Specialist certification.
