Better payment speed, workflows, and visibility

Powered by Wise Platform, Rho’s new global payment technology affords several key benefits for clients who manage their international payments using our platform:

Faster settlement speeds

Global payments with Rho just got faster. Over half of transfers via Wise settle in 20 seconds or less, with 94% arriving within 24 hours. Payments that previously took an average of a few business days can now be done in seconds.

Seamless vendor configuration

Rho clients can now set up international vendors in our platform in fewer steps thanks to improvements in how we collect recipient data.

Enhanced transparency

Thanks to our new global payment functionality, we now can quote a fee comprising the FX rate (if applicable) and a fixed $15 SWIFT network fee, which SWIFT network fee Rho clients can elect to cover beforehand.

Paying for the $15 SWIFT network fee will guarantee that the recipient gets the total amount quoted.

As a result, Rho clients can now see this exact amount before initiating the transfer, so all parties know the expected delivery amount.

Previously, Rho or the sender would not know how much the final fee would be until a transaction was processed completely.

Why? While Rho does not charge for USD wires to 140+ countries and only charges a flat 1% fee for FX payments, international wires might incur additional fees set by the recipient, correspondent or intermediary banks, or the SWIFT network.

These new enhancements are designed to add more transparency than ever before.

Improved payment tracking

By leveraging Wise’s API, we can ensure real-time visibility into payment flows so clients can better streamline operations by knowing the location of in-transit transfers and seeing estimated settlement times.

This allows for a full view of the payment process and provides greater autonomy to clients.

Building a world-class payment platform for businesses

These global payment enhancements come on the heels of the Rho platform’s new AP automation capabilities we announced earlier this year.

Building on this momentum, we will soon incorporate these global payment enhancements, including faster non-USD FX transfers, into our AP automation workflows and roll out three-way matching and additional accounting integrations.

Together, these enhancements underscore and support our vision to deliver the world’s best payments platform and customer support for businesses.

As your business scales from a few employees to having hundreds of teammates, multiple entities, and more robust payment needs, we have designed Rho’s payment solutions to scale alongside you.

FAQ: Global Payments

What is SWIFT?

An acronym abbreviation of Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunications, SWIFT is a communications network shared by financial institutions worldwide, primarily for secure payment facilitation and transaction recordkeeping.

Banks commonly use the SWIFT system to help customers send international wire transfers.

Note: Rho clients can send international transfers through the SWIFT network to the countries listed here

What is an ACH transfer?

ACH stands for Automated Clearing House and is a method of transferring funds electronically from one banking institution to another.

Businesses often use ACH transfers to facilitate employee direct deposits for payroll and recurring payments to vendors, moving funds from their bank account to the recipient’s account.

Note: With Rho, clients can easily facilitate ACH payments

What is a payment processor?

In the context of business payments, a card payment processor is a company that executes card transactions during checkout by transmitting card information data between your business, the merchant or vendor accepting payment, the issuing bank, and the acquiring bank.

Notable payment processing services (which also offer payment provider services) include Square, Stripe, Adyen, PayPal, Braintree, Amazon Pay, and Chase for Business.

What is a payment gateway?

A payment gateway is a web application that facilitates credit card processing for online payments between a buyer and an e-commerce platform brand.

The payment gateway securely transmits a customer’s payment information from the customer to the customer’s issuing bank and the acceptance (or denial) of the payment to the online store merchant’s receiving bank.

Some of the best payment gateway brands include Authorize.net, Stax, Square, Stripe, PayPal, and Shopify.

What is a cross-border payment?

A cross-border payment is a transaction facilitated between multiple businesses in different countries, usually involved in exchanging goods or services.

It is common for small businesses, startups, and middle-market companies to use cross-border payments to pay international vendors for supplies and services.

What is a wire transfer?

A wire transfer is a direct bank-to-bank funds transfer businesses use to send money.

Businesses generally use wire transfers because they have higher transaction limits than ACH transfers typically allow, although wire transfer service providers typically charge a transaction fee.

Once a wire transfer is initiated, it cannot be stopped, so you should take extra care to ensure your payment information and transaction details are correct.

Note: Rho makes it easy to send domestic and international wires
